About this course

The PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP®) is a specialist certification issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for project scheduling practitioners — the professionals responsible for developing, maintaining, and controlling project schedules in complex environments. Unlike the PMP which covers all project management knowledge areas broadly, the PMI-SP goes deep into schedule science: the methodologies, tools, and techniques that underpin accurate, realistic, and controllable project timelines across construction, defence, IT, infrastructure, and engineering sectors.

CertScope's PMI-SP training satisfies the 30 contact hours of education required by PMI for the application and covers all performance domains from the current PMI-SP Examination Content Outline (ECO): Schedule Strategy — establishing scheduling methodology, tools, and governance; Schedule Planning and Development — WBS decomposition, activity definition, sequencing, duration estimation, and critical path calculation; Schedule Monitoring and Controlling — tracking progress, variance analysis, and corrective action; Schedule Adapting — applying schedule compression, fast-tracking, and crashing techniques; and Resource and Stakeholder Management — resource loading, levelling, and schedule communication. Every topic is illustrated with real scheduling scenarios from construction, IT, and defence programme environments, and includes hands-on application with CPM networks, PERT analysis, and EVM calculations.

The PMI-SP exam consists of 170 questions (150 scored + 20 pretest) to be completed in 3.5 hours at Pearson VUE — online proctored or at a test centre. Eligibility requires either a 4-year degree + 3,500 hours of scheduling experience + 30 contact hours, or a secondary degree + 5,000 hours of scheduling experience + 40 contact hours — all within the last 5 consecutive years. CertScope provides full PMI application support including experience documentation guidance, audit-readiness coaching, 200+ practice questions across all ECO domains, and two full-length mock exams to ensure you are exam-ready before sitting.

PMI-SP certified professionals are specialist assets in industries where schedule accuracy is mission-critical. In construction and infrastructure, scheduling specialists earn $90,000–$130,000/year in the US; in defence and aerospace, where Primavera P6 scheduling is a contract requirement, PMI-SP holders command premium rates of $120,000–$160,000. The PMI-SP pairs naturally with the PMP to create a project manager who is both strategically capable and technically expert in the discipline that determines whether projects finish on time — making you a uniquely valuable professional in any project-intensive organisation.

Learning Path

1

Step 1: PMI-SP Eligibility — 4-Year Degree + 3,500 Hours Project Scheduling Experience

1–2 Weeks

Confirm your PMI-SP eligibility: a 4-year degree with 3,500 hours of project scheduling experience and 30 contact hours of scheduling education; or a secondary diploma with 5,000 hours of project scheduling experience and 40 contact hours. Scheduling experience must be demonstrated with specific hours (not months). CertScope's training fulfils the contact hours requirement. Submit your PMI application online — CertScope guides you through the eligibility verification and documentation process.

2

Step 2: Complete 30-Hour PMI-Authorised PMI-SP Scheduling Professional Training

30 Contact Hours

Complete CertScope's PMI-authorised 30-contact-hour PMI-SP training covering all six performance domains: Schedule Strategy, Schedule Planning and Development, Schedule Monitoring and Controlling, Schedule Closeout, Stakeholder and Communication Management, and Schedule Risk Management. Core techniques include Critical Path Method (CPM), PERT, resource levelling, schedule compression, baseline management, and Earned Value Management (EVM) for schedule performance analysis.

3

Step 3: PMI Application Review & Audit — Documentation Verification

2–4 Weeks

After submitting your PMI application, await the PMI eligibility audit (approximately 20% of applications are randomly selected). If audited, you must provide employer letters confirming your scheduling experience hours, transcripts, and education certificates. CertScope prepares you for the audit process with a documentation checklist, sample employer letter templates, and guidance on how to frame and verify your scheduling experience claims. Once approved, you receive your exam eligibility notification from PMI.

Step 4: PMI-SP Exam Preparation — 170 Questions, 3.5 Hours, CPM, PERT & EVM

4–6 Weeks

Prepare for the PMI-SP exam: 170 scenario-based questions, 3.5 hours, online proctored by PMI. The exam tests scheduling judgment across all six domains — with heavy emphasis on CPM calculations, PERT estimates, schedule compression decisions (crashing vs fast-tracking), Earned Value Analysis (SPI, SV, EAC), and stakeholder communication in scheduling contexts. CertScope provides three full-length timed mock exams and a domain-specific question bank targeting the highest-frequency exam topics.

Step 5: Pass the PMI-SP Exam — Earn Your PMI Scheduling Professional Certification

Exam Day

Sit the PMI-SP exam — 170 questions, 3.5 hours, PMI online proctoring. Results are displayed immediately. Upon passing, your PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) credential is issued by PMI and verifiable on their public registry. PMI-SP distinguishes you as a recognised scheduling specialist — a niche expertise commanding premium rates in construction, oil & gas, defence, IT, and infrastructure sectors where schedule performance directly drives project profitability.

Step 6: Maintain PMI-SP Certification — 30 PDUs Every 3 Years

Ongoing

Maintain your PMI-SP certification with 30 PDUs every 3 years via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR). At least 18 PDUs must be in the scheduling and project management technical domain (Ways of Working). CertScope provides PDU-eligible continuing education through scheduling workshops, advanced EVM programmes, and industry-relevant webinars. Your PMI-SP remains permanently verifiable on PMI's Certified Member Directory.
