Product Backlog
Quick Definition
An ordered list of everything that is known to be needed in the product — the single source of requirements for any changes to the product.
Detailed Explanation
The Product Backlog is owned by the Product Owner and is never complete — it evolves as the product and its environment evolve. Items at the top are refined, well-understood, and ready for Sprint selection. Items lower down are less detailed.
Backlog items typically take the form of user stories, features, technical debt, bugs, or enablers. Each item has a description, order, estimate, and value. Product Backlog refinement (grooming) is the ongoing activity of adding detail, estimates, and order.
The Product Backlog is the only input to Sprint Planning — the team selects items from the top of the backlog based on the Sprint Goal and their capacity.
