Standard Change
Quick Definition
A pre-authorised, low-risk, relatively common change that follows a documented procedure and does not require additional change authorisation.
Detailed Explanation
Standard changes are routine changes that have been performed many times with predictable outcomes — such as password resets, adding a user to a group, or deploying a standard software package. They are pre-approved through the change enablement process.
Once a change is classified as standard, it can be initiated without going through the CAB. However, standard changes are still logged, tracked, and reviewed periodically to ensure they remain low-risk.
The goal is to streamline low-risk changes while maintaining governance for higher-risk changes.
