Governance
COBIT
Quick Definition
Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies — ISACA's framework for enterprise IT governance and management.
Detailed Explanation
COBIT provides a comprehensive framework for governing and managing enterprise information and technology. The latest version, COBIT 2019, introduces design factors for tailoring governance to organisational context and focus areas for specific use cases.
COBIT defines 40 governance and management objectives organised into five domains: EDM (Evaluate, Direct, Monitor), APO (Align, Plan, Organise), BAI (Build, Acquire, Implement), DSS (Deliver, Service, Support), and MEA (Monitor, Evaluate, Assess).
COBIT complements ITIL — while ITIL focuses on service management practices, COBIT provides the overarching governance framework. Many organisations use both together.
