RACI Matrix
Quick Definition
A responsibility assignment matrix that defines who is Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed for each task or deliverable.
Detailed Explanation
RACI clarifies roles and prevents confusion on who does what. Responsible = does the work. Accountable = makes the final decision (only one per task). Consulted = provides input before the decision. Informed = kept updated after the decision.
RACIs are particularly useful in cross-functional projects where multiple teams contribute. They prevent the common problems of duplicated effort, dropped tasks, and unclear authority.
Variations include RASCI (adding Supportive) and DACI (Driver, Approver, Contributor, Informed) used by some Agile organisations.
