Service Value System

Quick Definition

The overarching model in ITIL® 5 that describes how all components and activities work together to create value through IT-enabled services.

Detailed Explanation

The SVS is the core architectural model of ITIL® 5. It takes opportunity and demand as inputs and produces value as output. The five components — guiding principles, governance, service value chain, practices, and continual improvement — interact dynamically to enable value creation. Unlike ITIL® v3's linear service lifecycle, the SVS is flexible and non-sequential. Different value streams traverse different paths through the system depending on the type of work being performed. The SVS ensures that all aspects of service management — from strategy and governance to operations and improvement — are connected and aligned toward delivering stakeholder value.
