Definition of Done

Quick Definition

A shared understanding of what it means for work to be complete — the quality standard that must be met for a product Increment to be releasable.

Detailed Explanation

The Definition of Done (DoD) is a commitment to quality. It typically includes criteria like code reviewed, unit tests passing, integration tests passing, documentation updated, security scan clean, and deployed to staging environment. The DoD applies to every item in the Sprint Backlog. If an item doesn't meet the DoD, it cannot be included in the Increment and returns to the Product Backlog. In ITIL® 5, the DoD concept aligns with the 'built-in quality' principle. In SAFe®, the DoD operates at team, system, and solution levels.
