Service Portfolio
Quick Definition
The complete set of services managed by a service provider — including services in the pipeline, live services, and retired services.
Detailed Explanation
The service portfolio provides a strategic view of all services across their lifecycle. It includes three components: the service pipeline (services under development), the service catalogue (live services), and retired services.
Portfolio management ensures the organisation invests in the right services by evaluating each service's strategic fit, financial viability, and demand. It answers: 'Why should a customer buy these services? Why should they buy them from us?'
In ITIL® 5, service portfolio management supports the Plan activity of the Service Value Chain.
