Sprint Planning
Quick Definition
A Scrum event where the team defines the Sprint Goal, selects Product Backlog items, and creates a plan for delivering the Sprint Increment.
Detailed Explanation
Sprint Planning is time-boxed to 8 hours for a one-month Sprint (proportionally less for shorter Sprints). It addresses two questions: What can be delivered in this Sprint? How will the chosen work get done?
The Product Owner presents the highest-priority backlog items and proposes a Sprint Goal. The Developers select items they can commit to and create a plan (the Sprint Backlog) for delivering them.
The Sprint Goal provides coherence and focus — it gives the team flexibility in how they deliver while maintaining a clear objective.
